Brand-New Norwegian Getaway to Feature Sweet Treats and Cool Hot Spots

Posted September 24, 2013
Norwegian Cruise Line announced today that Master Baker Buddy Valastro, star of the popular TLC television series "Cake Boss" and "Next Great Baker," will open his second Carlo's Bake Shop at sea on the new Norwegian Getaway, coming to Miami in February. The first debuted on her sister ship, the Norwegian Breakaway, receiving exceptional reviews.

Featuring all of the delicious treats and confections that the original bakery is known for, Carlo's Bake Shop on Norwegian Getaway, the largest ship to homeport in Miami year-round, will also give guests the opportunity to pre-order custom specialty cakes for celebrations such as birthdays and anniversaries. For a challenging and fun experience, Carlo's will offer cupcake decorating classes, where guests can learn some of Valastro's tricks of the trade.

The Norwegian Getaway will also offer two new and exciting spots to cool-down onboard; a brand new Ice Cream Bar and true ice bar to be named "SVEDKA/Inniskillin Ice Bar."

The Ice Cream Bar was recently introduced on the innovative Norwegian Breakaway to rave reviews. Located inside O'Sheehan's, the ships' 24-hour neighborhood bars, Norwegian Breakaway and Getaway's Ice Cream Bars serve up the most delectable classic ice cream parlor creations, from floats, milkshakes and malted shakes, to egg creams and a variety of spectacular ice cream sundaes.

The signature item on the Ice Cream Bar menu is the enormously delicious Breakaway or Getaway Sundae. This massive ice cream creation serves from three to four guests, includes a whopping nine scoops of ice cream in up to three different flavors and is topped with everything from chocolate fudge, butterscotch and raspberry sauces to chocolate shavings, sprinkles, crumbled Oreos, sliced almonds, marshmallows, gummy bears, whipped cream and cherries.

The over-the-top menu also features an assortment of mouth-watering ice cream sundae creations, including classic Hot Fudge Sundaes, Hot Caramel Sundaes and Banana Splits. The menu also features other sundae favorites such as classic Peach Melba, with peaches, vanilla ice cream, raspberry sauce and whipped cream; and Pear William, made with pears, vanilla ice cream, chocolate sauce and whipped cream.

Another "cool" place to hang onboard the Norwegian Getaway will be in the "SVEDKA/Inniskillin Ice Bar," featuring three dimensional icy elements inspired by the ship's homeport of Miami. Kept at 17 degrees Fahrenheit, the ship's ice bar will feature Art Deco-style decor, reminiscent of Miami Beach's famous Ocean Drive, and Florida-inspired specialty SVEDKA and Inniskillin ice wine cocktails. Entrance to the SVEDKA/Inniskillin Ice Bar Ice Bar can be reserved from 5:30 p.m.-10:30 p.m. nightly. The cost is $20 per person and includes two signature cocktails that will be served in specially-created glasses made entirely of ice.

About the Norwegian Getaway: The 146,600-ton, Norwegian Getaway, the second vessel in NCL's Breakaway-class ships, will debut in January 2014 and sail year-round from Miami. Being developed as "Miami's ship," Norwegian Getaway will embody the essence of her tropical hometown with hull artwork by Miami's own David "LEBO" LeBatard, which features a whimsical mermaid holding the sun above the waves.

This innovative, 4,028-passenger ship will offer guests a multitude of special features. Approximately 75% of the staterooms are outside staterooms, most with balconies. Also included are staterooms designed for solo travelers and The Haven by Norwegian, a top-of-the-ship complex that pampers guests with a range of suites, private restaurant, lounge, covered pool area and sun deck.
