Galapagos Cruises

The Galapagos Islands, found west of Ecuador, are one of the most intriguing and highly protected places on earth. First discovered by Charles Darwin, these islands have remained at the top of many traveler's must-see lists nearly two centuries later thanks to their natural splendor and unique wildlife. Here, while viewing wildlife found nowhere else, Darwin created his theory of evolution which has sparked controversy ever since. Book your Galapagos cruise now.

Galapagos Cruise Highlights

Wherever you go in the Galapagos, expect to see plenty of animals, many of which are unique to the islands: sea lions, tortoises, blue footed boobies, and pink iguanas are just a few that inhabit the Galapagos. Due to its location on the Nazca tectonic plate, many islands feature stunning volcanoes, and some still erupt every few years. This destination is wonderful for animal and nature lovers, as well as those with an adventurous streak - snorkeling, hiking, biking and kayaking are common activities on the islands.

Popular Galapagos Cruise Ports

The Galapagos is made up of a number of islands. These are some often found on cruise itineraries:

  • San Cristobal: One of the oldest and most developed of the Galapagos Islands, San Cristobal is home to an abundance of wildlife, the only freshwater lake in the islands, and several extinct volcanoes. For a great view and glimpse of many local birds, visit Lagoon El Junco.
  • Bartolome: Visit Bartolome's white sand beaches, home to friendly Galapagos penguins, or go snorkeling to see the island's marine animals, which include reef sharks, rays and tropical fish. Hike up to the Pinnacle Rock Overlook for a great view of the islands.
  • Isabela: The largest of the Galapagos Islands, Isabela is also one of the youngest. It boasts secluded scuba diving tours and plenty of animal watching, both in the ocean and on land; the island itself is home to more land tortoises than any other island, and the popular Tortoise Breeding Center.

When is the Best Time to Go to the Galapagos?

Ships sail to the Galapagos year round. The first half of the year, January through May, is the wet season, with light rain most days but warm temperatures, often in the high 80s. May through December is known as the dry season, with cooler temperatures, sometimes in the low 60s.

What Cruise Lines Go to the Galapagos?

Galapagos is a less common destination for most cruise lines, and you won't find any massive ships here. Check out these smaller lines, most of which sail with less than 100 passengers on cruises to the Galapagos.

  • Celebrity Cruises: Celebrity offers six unique itineraries through 15 islands and more than 30 ports of call in the Galapagos Islands. While in port, try Celebrity shore excursions that will take you hiking, snorkeling, and in view of animals like flamingos and pintail ducks.
  • Lindblad Expeditions: One of the most experienced lines to sail to this destination, Lindblad has been exploring the islands for almost 50 years. The expedition ships team up with National Geographic to offer intimate experiences for families, solo travelers and couples alike. Board a glass bottom boat or go kayaking to see the stunning waters surrounding the islands up close.
  • Silversea Cruises: Discover the natural beauty of the Galapagos in luxury aboard a Silversea cruise, many of which begin in Baltra or San Cristobal. In-port excursions include snorkeling with sea lions, hiking along lava tunnels, and taking Zodiacs to tidal pools and saltwater lagoons.
