The Ohio River is the largest tributary of the Mississippi River, at nearly 1,000 miles from its headwaters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to its mouth on the Mississippi River at Cairo, Illinois. The Ohio flows through or along the border of six states including Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois.
