The Ohio River is the largest tributary of the Mississippi River, at nearly 1,000 miles from its headwaters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to its mouth on the Mississippi River at Cairo, Illinois. The Ohio flows through or along the border of six states including Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Indiana and Illinois.
The Ohio River is of great significance to the history of the Native Americans, for thousands of years they used the river as a vital transportation and trading route. Later, the European settlers, and early U.S. pioneers that expanded westward, followed suit.
Known for its breathtaking scenery, charming towns and numerous islands, an Ohio River cruise allows passengers to take a journey back in time on one of America's most picturesque waterways.
